Essential oils to detangle your hair with.

So it seems this season will not go without the appearance of the cold and flu viruses. But is there anything we can do about them? Sure, there is. And since I am not a fan of the flu shot, I am bringing you some essential oils alternatives.

1. Tea Tree (Malaleuca) oil* . It can fight germs, bacteria and viruses. Tea tree oil can be used in many different ways this season.

- As a disinfectant: add 20-25 tea tree drops to a 500ml spray bottle with water, shake well and use to wipe up any surfaces around the home. This is especially effective, if someone is already ill and you want to stop the germs from spreading. Pay special attention to door knobs, kitchen and bathroom surfaces.

- Use in a diffuser to disinfect the air around the home. Put 4 drops of tea tree oil with 4 drops of eucalyptus oil* in a diffuser. (In case there are children under 2 in your home, skip the eucalyptus oil).

This oil is very warm, spicy and penetrating. It can be used in early stages of flu by adults only and children over 12! Also not to be used in conjunction with Homeopathy, as it might prevent it from working. Here is a simple and effective massage blend in order to fight the viral infection at the early stages.

I have included this oil for several reasons, but the most important being that this oil is the safest to use for children.

It is also particularly useful for respiratory ailments and symptoms such as influenza, colds, sinus congestion, and coughs.

Furthermore, lavender oil can alleviate breathing problems when phlegm is trapped within the lungs and sinuses.

For Congestion Relief apply several drops of lavender essential oil on the chest, sinus, neck and back area for quick relief.

You can also add a few drops of Roman Chamomile essential oil*, this will have an additional soothing effect.

When using for children under 6 dilute in carrier oil (4-5 drops of essential oil in 20ml carrier oil). Do not use essential oils topically for children under 1 year old.

Like the fruit it is made of (or to be precise its peels), lemon oil is known to be especially valuable during the winter months. It has immune boosting abilities and combined with other oils can fight the airborne germs too.

You can use it in a handy diffuser necklace to boost immunity and purify the air.

You can add a drop or two of each of these essential oils in a diffuser necklace or a diffuser at home. The blend will purify the air and boost your immunity. You can use any of the following essential oils: Lemon, Lavender, Tea Tree, Grapefruit*, Ginger*, Geranium*.

The ginger essential oil is produced from the roots by steam distillation. It is a very hot oil and should always be used in small amounts.

Ginger is good for treating colds, coughs, the flu, rheumatism, aching muscles and joints, and even malaria.

Fresh ginger is very warming and helps so fight viral infections by slightly raising the body temperature which makes it harder for viruses to survive. *Ginger can be mildly sensitizing so perform a patch test before using for the first time.

To feel overall better during illness, take a hot bath with this blend:

  • 2 drops ginger essential oil

  • 3 drops cardamom essential oil

Put the essential oils in a cup of fresh milk and then add to the hot water.

I wish you health and radiance.
